The crystal/gemstone descriptions below are mostly short versions of what you will find in Melody's books. If I have picked up something special about the crystal/gemstone, I have added it to the description. I think that Melody's books are the best source for learning about crystals and stones. She has several books out, but this is her latest and greatest, in my humble opinion.:

This large book has photos, Moh's hardness, chemical formulas, locations where the mineral is found, and the metaphysical characteristics of the crystal. I no longer need her other two books, but I do need two hands to hold this huge book! It's just wonderful how much information is in this book!!

Melody's books have been and continue to be a great learning resource! Melody's books cover more crystals than any other books I am familiar with.

AFGHANITE From Siri - Afghanite is a peaceful warrior. On the physical level, excellent for clearing disease from the entire face and head area...good piece for strengthening all bones of the body including the teeth. AGATE Agate is another form of Chalcedony and therefore one of the Quartzes. It balances the yin-yang energy and also balances the physical, emotional, and intellectual bodies with the spiritual. It cleanses and stabilizes your aura and not only dissolves negativity but transmutes it as well. Agates tend to be in the brown and gray tones, and Jaspers tend to be more colorful. AJOITE Ajoite is a lovely turquoise or aqua. The middle syllable of Ajoite is "joy", and this is truly a highly developed joyous stone. Most often found in combination with Quartz, which is rare enough, but you do occasionally see Ajoite phantoms within Quartz crystals. Ajoite joins the Heart Chakra and the Throat Chakra ("feel the truth" and "speak the truth") and allows you to speak what is in your heart. Ajoite brings peace to you and allows you to joyously accept your life. You can rid yourself of negatives, including self-hostility. It allows you to truly become the "I AM". AMAZONITE Amazonite is generally an exquisite light turquoise color and is a type of Feldspar. It works best on the Heart Chakra and Throat Chakra, but it is soothing for all Chakras. Pink Peruvian Opal is the prettiest of light to medium-light pinks. Angel Silk is not like the Opals most people are familiar with. Rather than having flashes of various colors, the Blue and Pink Opals from Peru glow from within. It is an Angel Crystal and works on the Spiritual Heart Chakra, connecting us in love to all others. It helps develop your intuitiveness and is a very gentle and loving mothering crystal. ANGEL CRYSTAL--ANGELITE Angelite is one of the Angel Crystals, of course. Angelite nodules look like a white potato on the outside, and you would never suspect that on the inside is this glorious blue crystal! It encourages saying and sending love and light into the world. It aligns the physical body with the etheric bodies. Angelite sets up a protective field around itself. It enhances telepathic communication as well as contact with other worldly beings. It can open the pathway for channeling. It raises your conscious awareness, allowing you to "plug in" to universal awareness. It initiates or intensifies contact with your spirit totem. Angelite is useful for psychic healing, allowing a bridge between you and the ethereal energy field. It aids you in astral travel, allowing this travel to become second nature to you. ANGEL CRYSTAL--ANHYDRITE Anhydrite attracts the Angels to you when you work with it. Using Anhydrite with Dioptase and Selenite will give you a sense of attunement and balance. Anhydrite works on the Throat Chakra. It allows you to leave the past behind when necessary and look forward to the changes coming with gladness in your heart. The light blue Anhydrite brings help for the nervous system (calmness) while the white Anhydrite is better for energy work and for ridding entities from an area. ANGEL CRYSTAL--APOPHYLLITE Apophyllite is one of the Angel Crystals. It comes in white/clear and green. The green is more rare. It allows you to consciously connect your physical body with the spirit realm. It is very useful for astral travel and it allows you to remain connected to your physical body during that travel. It allows you to bring your experiences back to your physical body. Natural Apophyllite pyramids will stimulate your intuitive vision, especially when you place the pyramid, base down, on your Third Eye Chakra. The pyramids will also assist you in channeling. I have to tell you I am not an expert at classifying Zeolites. I do not yet know them as well as I know so many other crystals! I have particular trouble picking out the Heulandite from the Stilbite. AQUAMARINE Aquamarine is actually such strong protection that it protects against danger. It is a stone of courage. It helps you learn about your physical world and about yourself. It shields your aura. It is a Throat Chakra crystal. This crystal is one of the Beryl Group, and all of the Beryls are quite special. Two Beryls are Angel Crystals. Aquamarine (and Kyanite) are going to be extremely important to us in the next while. It is an important crystal for us to have around us. ARAGONITE Aragonite helps you center yourself, especially when you are experiencing stress and/or anger. This gemstone also encourages patience. It can give you great insight into the problems you have on the physical plane and can also stimulate communication on the higher planes. Aragonite is the Crystal of Kings. ARFVEDSONITE Arfvedsonite chases nightmares away. It is a great aid to sleep well and deeply. It is a Crystal of the Throat Chakra and helps you see the truth and then talk about it. Arfvedsonite is a manifestation crystal. It also helps you to see where your own negative behavior leads and to know it for what it is. Clairvoyantly, Arfvedsonite encourages visions that predict the future. It keeps a vortex of energy in place around you which drains the negativity out of you or at least the negative thoughts, so that they can be replaced by positive thoughts. ASTROPHYLLITE Titanium Crystals have come to the forefront the last few months, and they are quite important right now. Some of them are Astrophyllite, Benitoite (beautiful blue), Sphene, and Bastnaesite. From Siri - Here you go again...Titanium...really important right now as they are showing up everywhere. Awesome energy here--good earthy connection with an energy inclusion that is extremely high. Uncommon--connected to the earth and shoots all the way through the Crown Chakra...good good and very healing energy. Love it for the bladder--good physical healer but a whole lot more. These crystals have really strong and balanced energy, not hot. Most reds are hot, but the Titanium cools. This is such a feeding energy...allows you to draw energy from the earth...the very strongest of Morion Quartz does that, too. They are completely connected to the earth energy. ATLANTASITE Atlantasite easily connects to ancient civilizations (i.e., Mu, Lemuria, Atlantis) and, especially, to forms of healing used by those civilizations. Melody mentions that two pieces are needed--one to place on the Third Eye Chakra and the second to place on the Heart Chakra. This combination will be of much help to any healer; helping them to find the correct pathway to heal that person and augmenting everything else used. The Hatfields and McCoys would have benefited greatly from the use of this combination crystal. It would have allowed them to end their feud. Stichtite brings calm to the space in which it resides. This crystal helps you get in touch with your emotions and allows our thoughts to begin with loving energy. It teaches us to be gentle with ourselves. It encourages good behavior in children. Serpentine helps the Kundalini to rise and can open a pathway for this energy to travel up your body. Used at the Crown Chakra, it will draw the Kundalini up to it and also stimulate the Crown Chakra. It helps clear cloudy areas of all the Chakras. AURA QUARTZ ANGEL AURA QUARTZ Angel Aura Quartz is created when Clear Quartz Crystals are put in a vacuum with Platinum and Silver. This produces a white opalescent coating on the crystals. ANGEL CRYSTAL--AZURITE Azurite is an Angel Crystal and is also called the "Crystal of Heaven". BASTNAESITE From Siri - Both Sphene and Bastnaesite are Titanium pieces!!! They are both top of the line energetically and VERY VERY POWERFUL!!! The Bastnaesite (Yttrium Fluorite with Astrophyllite [Titanium] inclusions usually) is hard to get and very pricey...they actually work very well together!!!! BLACK CORAL From Siri - Natural Black Coral is a cool water energy! Where Black Spinel is of the earth and carries more depth and solid earth healing energy, Black Coral flows beautifully and deeply, but on a more delicate vibration! Don't be fooled, though! Yes, earth and fire are powerful energy, but air and water are EQUALLY powerful. They just don't display it outright; it comes slowly. Black Coral will first look within you and find all the nasty or painful emotions that we refuse to deal with--rage, anger, greed, sorrow, pain, etc. and very very quickly bring them to surface and force those fear-based emotions out. (Note: Go slowly if you have rage issues.) It then works to pull all the physical debris from the body (lymphs) starting at the toes and working upward through the whole body and being. BLACK SPINEL From Siri - I would call Black Spinel "the source" crystal. Think of it this way--if a Black Tourmaline is able to heal on three levels, then a Black Spinel heals on twenty-four levels. BLUE HEALERS Covellite Blue Healers come in both dark and medium blue. The darker blues are the rarest and usually more powerful. Azurite (Angel Crystal and Crystal of Heaven), Teal Apatite, Covellite, Shattuckite, Cavansite, Lazurite (the blue in Lapis Lazuli), Lapis Lazuli, Afghanite, and Lazulite are some of the dark blues. Some of these (i.e., Covellite) have a tinge of green in them as well. In the medium blue range, I would list Angelite, Blue Kyanite, Blue Lace Agate, Blue Chalcedony, and Owyhee Opal. This is a very high group of crystals that do very high spiritual healing. CHALCEDONY Chalcedony is one of the Quartzes. One of the most prized is Blue Chalcedony. It can range from a regular blue to a grayish blue. Chrysoprase is the apple green Chalcedony. Chrome Diopside is the most prized and the rarest of the Diopsides. Its color is similar to that of a deep green Emerald or Tsavorite. Chrome Diopside stimulates the intellect and helps you in academic endeavors. It is a healing crystal as well. Chrome Diopside is a Heart Chakra crystal. KUNZITE Kunzite is an Angel Crystal and comes in many colors. I have heard that it actually glows when it is first pulled from the earth! Kunzite is actually just the pink color. Hiddenite is technically just the green variety that comes from South Carolina, USA, but you will see almost all green Kunzite labeled Hiddenite. The other colors (yellow, clear/white, blue, lavendar) are technically called Spodumene. It seems easiest for me to label all of the colors "Kunzite". Like all the Angel Crystals I have held and worked with, Kunzite does its work very subtly and gently. It does its work quietly. It works best on the Heart Chakra, Throat Chakra, and the Third Eye Chakra. It activates the Heart Chakra and brings it into alignment with the Throat and Third Eye Chakras. LARIMAR Larimar comes only from the Dominican Republic. This crystal has a very strong connection to Atlantis. Larimar is such an incredibly beautiful crystal--its various shades of aqua are strongly reminiscent of the waters of the Caribbean. Its combination of various shades of aquas and white are so beautiful. Larimar is for the Throat Chakra. I do know that it is related to Variscite which is related to Turquoise. Both Variscite and Turquoise are excellent healers, so it would be a good assumption to assume that Phosphosiderite is also a healer. ROSETTA PICTURE ROCK I don't know anything about this rock, but it was so unusually pretty that I had to get some! I have not felt this energy in any Yellow Scapolite. This Scapolite actually feels like Tourmaline in that it has more movement; it moves the chi in the body. It is very powerful. SELENITE Selenite is, in my opinion, one of the least known and most underrated crystals out there. This crystal does everything Quartz Crystal does and more! It constantly recharges itself, so you never have to worry about cleansing it or recharging it! Selenite can cleanse, recharge, and program your other crystals and gemstones as well. Clear Quartz Crystal, Kyanite, and Apophyllite also cleanse and recharge themselves. For example, if you had a Clear Quartz Crystal Cluster, you could place other crystals and gemstones on it to cleanse and recharge them. It would take about a week for the Clear Quartz Crystal to do this. On the other hand, placing other crystals and gemstones on Selenite only takes five minutes! Selenite is much quicker to cleanse and recharge. It has a white satin luminescence to it that partially shows in the photos below but is far more spectacular when you see it "live". It is layers upon layers of clear crystal. This form is also referred to as "White Ice" in Utah. That name fits, too! Desert Rose Selenite is Selenite mixed with Sand. All of the Selenites are lovely soft energy. They are, after all, Angel Crystals. Selenite helps us to merge the energy of Spirit into our daily lives. It is pure white light and so willingly brings this white light into your life, both inside and outside of you; into all of your bodies--Physical, Intellectual, and Spiritual. Like Clear Quartz Crystal, this mineral has stored information that can be revealed to us when we work with it. Both are pure white light and will go where they are needed. It is good to use when we are emotionally upset, because it has a calming influence and can help you see a situation objectively. Selenite can be placed on the Third Eye Chakra to heighten astral projection. It can also increase your telepathic abilities. It is also extremely useful with any healing treatment. I often have people hold a piece of the Satin Spar Selenite when I am doing a healing on them. Mind you, I still use Clear Quartz Crystal as well. I am not putting down the high value of Quartz as a tool. I had no need to work with Clear Quartz for years, but I am working with it quite a bit since the energy changed last year. I often work with both Clear Quartz and Selenite. Satin Spar Selenite is an excellent crystal to use for energy grids; by itself or with other crystals. When I meditate with it, I often have another crystal in my other hand. I use Satin Spar Selenite for the healing of others and for self-healing. I use it for meditation. Satin Spar Selenite is my best healing crystal. Mangano Calcite is my second best, and that lovely pink Angel Crystal works best on emotional problems. I have never met a piece of Selenite I did not love! In anything metaphysical, I can only share what knowledge and experience I have. OPTICAL SELENITE Optical Selenite is not very easy to find and tends to be more expensive than the Satin Spar Selenite when you do find it. Much of it is found in the United States, in our West--states like Utah and Idaho. It is also found in Mexico as well. Optical Selenite is a different crystal formation than the Satin Spar Selenite. RED SATIN SPAR SELENITE Red Satin Spar Selenite has all of the characteristics of Selenite above, but the color ranges from peach in a small piece to deep orange in a very large piece. The energy is all that White Satin Spar Selenite is, and it does feel like it does an even better job of healing the physical body. The White Satin Spar Selenite connects very strongly to the physical body, but the Red Satin Spar Selenite connects even more strongly to the physical body. The Red Satin Spar Selenite has as strong a spiritual connection as the White Satin Spar Selenite. I have worked with it along with the white Satin Spar Selenite, also, and I have to say this is a formidable combination. The Red Selenite brings some new things to the mix--very positive things! This crystal is an extraordinary healer. From Siri - Red Selenite is high but digs lower down in the emotions when working. The Red Selenite works completely differently than the White Selenite, and that is the beauty of it. SELENITE/AZURITE Satin Spar Selenite is more powerful pure white light than Clear Quartz Crystal. I do work with both Selenite and Quartz constantly as both are the basics, the foundation, of my crystal work and therefore my metaphysical work. Azurite is the Crystal of Heaven. YELLOW/GOLD SELENITE The Yellow/Gold Selenite Crystals feel so spiritual to me, and the color is truly High Spiritual Gold. They have a really lovely floaty sensation that helps us ascend higher. The energy of this crystal is also softer, very cloud-like. The yellow/gold color comes from iron deposits in the crystal. These crystals are unique and cannot be classified as either Satin Spar Selenite or Optical Selenite. Their formation is different, and the crystals can be very large or very small. SEPTARIAN Septarian started out as a mud ball; Bentonite Clay is the gray color. Yellow Calcite and Brown/Red Aragonite formed and cracked the mud balls. Each nodule has very unique markings. Septarian greatly enhances your communication abilities, especially when speaking to groups. The combination of crystals that is Septarian is very healing for our own bodies and can be used to heal others. Septarian is very uplifting and helps you to get to know yourself better spiritually. ANGEL CRYSTAL--SERAPHINITE (aka SEREFINA, SEREFINA CHLORITE, CLINICHLORE) Seraphinite is one of the Angel Crystals. It is one of the many lovely new crystals coming out of Russia these days. The deep green of this stone is Chlorite which is extremely healing (sometimes seen in Clear Quartz Crystals). There are silver "fronds", like a fern has, are throughout this crystal that flash the most brilliant color. It is not only a beautiful stone but also a very special one energetically. Seraphinite encourages contact with the highest order of angels during meditation. Placed on the Crown Chakra, it will align all the Chakras in the body. Used over the Heart Chakra, it provides protection as well as allows you to send out the unconditional love that is there. Seraphinite helps you to see your life clearly and provides an accurate understanding of what your life actually is as well as what needs to be done to change things to provide you with peace and happiness. SERPENTINE Serpentine helps the Kundalini to rise and can open a pathway for this energy to travel up your body. It enhances psychic ability, increases clairvoyance and clairsentient abilities and allows you to determine whether the messages you get are true or not. These two crystals help us to break free of deeply rooted habits and patterns, used in times of great change or when making a huge change, (i.e. moving, stopping smoking--they break deep seated habits)!!! I think this gives it an extra healing ability; the ability to COME DOWN a bit more into the physical healing arena instead of staying out in the finer bodies to work. SPINEL From Siri - Spinel is actually far more valuable than Ruby for healers. Ruby works on three different levels. That is their focus. Spinel is a major all over body healer. Think of the Spinel as a cleaning lady…she mops the floor, does the dishes, washes windows, laundry…you get the idea. Sugilite is the crystal for the new age we have just entered. From Siri - Purple Sugilite is the crystal of the coming age. It removes physical blockages as well as heals and centers the being.
