Carnelian was known and used in ancient Egypt. I saw it on one of King Tut's sarcophagi myself and in other things in his tomb (i.e., dagger, uraeus [crown]). Turquoise and Lapis Lazuli were also used. Carnelian's lovely orange color makes it a wonderful Navel Chakra crystal, and it is useful to combat depression! Carnelian Agate connects us with the Earth and the Universe. This crystal is most effective on the Navel or Sacral (Root) Chakra but also works well on the Solar Plexus Chakra and the Heart Chakra.
